Fun Fold Out Card

I was trying to think of a bunch of ways to use all this designer paper that I have. I think the most fun idea was this nice tri-fold card. When it’s folded up, you can see both sides of the paper. I thought this was fantastic because I can never make up my mind which side of that paper I want to use.

When you open it up, there is lots of space to write on. And it was so simple. The tall side is 5 1/2″ (same as a regular card), and the short side is 2 1/2″. Make a score line at the 4″ mark from either side and fold your 12″ long paper into three parts. Easy as that!

The colour scheme I used here was Crushed Curry, Calypso Coral, Rich Razzleberry and Pool Party.

Hope you have fun trying this one out!

Designer Paper Class

I hear it all the time. “I’ve got so much paper I don’t know what to do with it all!” I must admit, I might be more guilty of this then most. I’m addicted to pretty paper. So I decided to come up with ways of using it. I mean, that’s what it’s meant for, isn’t it? Now, I feel like it’s time to share my uses with the world.

Come to my “How to Use Designer Paper” class, July 19th from 10 am – 12 noon. We will be making 6 mini cards with envelopes, and two regular sized cards. The cost of the class is $20. If you would like to come but don’t know where I live, just leave a comment and I will get back to you.

Here is the mini card with envelope that we will be making.

Hope to see you there!

Father Time

My husband was looking on the Groupon web-site and there were a lot of groupons for watches. Over half of them were for watches… He turned to me and asked, “You think Father’s Day is coming up?” Thus, the inspiration for this card.

I really wish I had a saying that had something to do with time, or a basic typeset kind of stamp set. Maybe soon. Anyway, here is what I used to make this card:

  • Stamp sets: Clockworks, Father To Look Up To
  • Ink: Chocolate Chip, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Basic Black, Smoky Slate, Basic Grey
  • Card Stock: Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla
  • Other: Aqua Painter, Paper Snips, Sponges, Anywhere Glue Stick, Stampin’ Dimentionals

Father’s Day Tree

The events just keep coming in our house. I feel like I haven’t had a brake in months. But I must admit, when I have no big thing to plan for, I feel a little lost.

Next on the list: Father’s Day! The day after that is my husband’s birthday. I think there are a few other birthdays between now and then but I can’t seem to keep track any more. But back to Father’s Day. I started making cards for all your wonderful dad’s out there. Get them while you can. This one is particularly great. It’s the only saying that I have found that my husband, and father of my children, thinks is good enough to give to his dad. All other sayings are too sappy or too sentimental.

So if you would like one, just let me know by June 12th so I have time to get it to you. Hopefully I will have time to post more father’s day cards. I have lots of ideas, but only a few get made. I need to plant more Thyme in my garden, see if that helps.

Big cards

I recently was asked to do an oversize card for someone who was in the hospital. This way, lot’s of people could send their well wishes all at once. I had to think about this for a bit. And then silly me came up with the obvious idea of sewing two 8 1/2 x 11 peaces of paper together for a card 4 times it’s normal size. Never would have thought of that if sewing had not become so popular in the card making world. So here it is:

It’s a good idea to score the front peace of paper so that it opens easily. It was for a guy so I thought, the more basic it was, the better. Guys seem to appreciate simplicity.

Supply List:

  • Stamps: Clockworks, Hardwood, Sassy Salutations
  • Card Stock: Pear Pizzazz, Crumb Cake
  • Ink: Pear Pizzazz, Crumb Cake
  • Other: Sponges, Sewing things.

Mothers Day Card Fundraiser

So, there are a lot of people who go to my church. That’s a good thing. The bad thing is that the building is very small. It’s also seen better days. So they decided to start planing for a new building. That’s a good thing. The bad thing is that new buildings cost a lot. So I’m doing a fundraiser for my church. That’s a good thing. I can’t think of a bad thing in that…

Mother’s Day cards, by donation. The suggested donation is $5 with 50% going to the church for a new building. I know it doesn’t seem like much but every little bit helps. And I think we have a sponsor who will match all the donations to the church. So really, you give a little, twice gets given, and you get a card for your mom too!

Here is one of the cards I’ve done so far. If you would like something more specific, just ask. I might be able to do something for you.

I will try and post more cards as I make them. You can e-mail me at lora-lynne@frewing.ca with any questions, purchases, or whatever you can think of in regards to my cards. Thank you all. Have a great Mother’s day! (It’s May 11th for those of you who don’t know).

Zoo Review

My nephew is turning one! How the time goes. I feel like it goes faster for me and slower for everyone else. And at the same time, others probably feel the same way about themselves. Time is such a strange concept.

Anyway, he is super cute so I thought I wold make him a super cute card for his special day. The geraff is from the stamp set Zoo Review which is being retired. The Happy Birthday banner is from the stamp set Banner Greetings which is a hostess set and also being retired. I figure I’ve got a short window left to use all these retiring sets before I put them on my “for sale” shelf. Hope you enjoy!

  • Card stock: Soft Suede, So Saffron and Very Vanilla
  • Ink: Soft Suede
  • Accessories: Anywhere Glue Sticks, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Glue Dots, Linen Thread, Aqua Painter, Paper Snips, Stampin’ Trimmer, Sponges

saying good-bye… or hello

So the retiring list is out. Most people think that this is a time to say good-bye to all the things that won’t be available anymore. I say it’s time to say hello to all the new goodies you are going to get because this is your last chance to get them. Like stampin’ around the wheel stamps and accessories. It looks like they will be fazed out. For me, it’s always hard to know if it’s worth it. I know Stampin’ Up! will be replacing the retiring items with other really cool items. So do I spend the money now, or wait for something new? It really depends now how much you love that stamp set or punch. A few questions to ask would be:

  • How long have I wanted it?
  • Are they retiring the whole line of product?
  • Exactly what would I use it for?

But in the end, I usually flip a coin. Heads, I get it. Tales, I don’t. The thing is, it really doesn’t matter what the coil tells me. It’s how the answer makes me feel. If getting it makes me feel like I’m spending money un-necessarily, I don’t get it. If I get tales and that makes me want to cry because I’ll never have something I know I would love and use, I get it anyway. Because no matter what, I always seem to know how much of a good idea, or bad, idea something is.

So click on the image at the top of this post. It will take you to all the wonderful things that you might never see again… unless you get them for yourself.

Quilled Cross Card

I think I’m getting the hang of this Quilling thing. Here is a card to wish you all a happy Easter!

DSC_0838

Colours I used were Very Vanilla, Wild Wassabi and Perfect Plum. Curl 1/8″ strips of paper around a paper pricing tool to get your curls. Use Multi-Purpose Glue to adhere them to the card and help manipulate their shape. It’s a good idea to plan out what you want to do before you start the project. Saves a lot of time.

Happy Easter everyone!

Easter Baskes

So I thought I would make these ridiculously cute baskets for the kids at our church for Easter… then I realized that the kids might out number the adults in our church. I think I’ll just make a few. Siblings can share.

DSC_0844

Here is one in each of the colours I did them in. Pool Party, Crumb Cake, Wisteria Wonder, Pair Pizzazz, Pink Pirouette, So Saffron. Just weave 1/8″ strips of paper together, glue all the ends down with Multi-Purpose Glue, braid three strips together for the handle, and your done! Fill with mini chocolate eggs (or whatever you like) and hand them out. Have fun trying that one.
