So, I haven’t been posting anything for a while and I thought I would share with you the reason why…

DSC_0319

I love having another baby in the house. She is wonderful. After two weeks of life, I can already see her getting bigger. Her big brother just wants to hold her all day, and her big sister gives her kisses any chance she gets. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful family.

A Sale-A-Bration Birthday Page

So here’s two coordinating pages using the Sweet Sorbet designer paper, Banner Blast stamp set and the Banner punch that you can get for free with this years Sale-A-Bration. Of course the little girl in all the pictures is what makes the pages so amazing. But then again, seeing as I’m her mom, I might be a little bias.

How I joined Stampin’ Up!

How did I become a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator? I paid $125 for the starter kit and signed up. That was it…

Okay, why did I become a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator? That’s a bit longer of an answer. I had been doing paper crafting for a long time. So I already knew what the stores carried and I was already a fan of stamps.

One day I was invited to go to a Stampin’ Up! open house. This was my fist exposure to Stampin’ Up! The demonstrator putting on the open house (soon to be my up-line) had so many wonderful cards out on display. I looked at them all to see how she had made them and was amazed at how many different uses one stamp could have. I was a big copy cat at the time, so I tried to absorb everything that I could so I could try it at home with what I had.

Then I saw this one card that was made with the same colour ink, paper and ribbon. I remember thinking, “Yeah right. Where did she find all that stuff to match?” My friend who had brought me looked at me and said, “That’s the joy of Stampin’ Up! Everything matches.”

I bought my first stamp set at that open house. My friend booked a party, and of course I went to it.

My soon to be up-line showed us so many great ideas and techniques. I had my baby boy with me (he was still nursing at the time) but I still had enough time to get all the cards made. They were so easy and fun. But the thing that got my attention this time was the cleaning pad. “Wow,” I thought. “I wouldn’t have to take all my stamps out to the kitchen to clean them in the sink any more. That’s amazing. It would save so much time and do such a better job. And I would have to wait for the stamps to dry.” But unfortunately, I didn’t have the money to spend on things I didn’t need for immediate survival. Somehow, food always seems to take top priority.

But I didn’t stop thinking about it.

Now, another thing you must know about me is that I grew up with a mom who sold Avon. As a young child, I would help her deliver fliers to the neighbours and watch as she put her name on the back of catalogues. I had so much fun helping her with whatever I could. As I grew up, I often thought about starting my own little home based business, just like my mom. But I’m not really an Avon lady, and Tupperware just didn’t seem to be my thing. There were lots of other companies that I looked into, but time after time they just didn’t seem to fit my personality.

So now I’ve been to two things involving Stampin’ Up! and I can’t get it out of my head. “What if I sold Stampin’ Up!? Could I do it? I love the product, and the idea.” Almost a year later I e-mailed the lovely demonstrator I had met only twice, and signed up. I thought I would give it a try.

I still remember writing my name and contact info on the back of that fist pack of catalogues. Every time I get new catalogues in, I smile as I pull out my pen.

Pack of Thank You Cards

So I thought I would get ahead in making some thank you cards for people. There seems to always be the need for a thank you card. And then I thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if people could get a pack of these for a reasonable price?” So here we are. A pack of 16 thank you cards, on sale for $16 until April 3rd. Order as many packs as you like, and keep them in stock for when they are needed. They can be all in the same colour or in four different colours. They are 4 1/4″ x 2 3/4″.

A Paper Calla Lily

I used to think making paper flowers was hard… was I ever wrong. This is probably the most simple flower I have ever made. And it happens to be one of my favorite flowers too! So I had to show you all how to do this in hopes that the word would be a better place… Okay, that’s going a bit far. But it might inspire a few of you to try something new, which is always a good thing.

To start with you will need the following items:

  1. Bird Builder punch
  2. Paper-Piercing tool (my tool is the old model)
  3. Card stock. I used Whisper White for the flower, Pair Pizzazz for the stem (1/8″ wide max, length depends on project), and So Saffron for the center bit (1/8″ wide max and 1 1/2″ long).
  4. Multipurpose Liquid Glue (used for all the gluing needs)

DSC_0573

Take the Whisper White card stock and punch out just the wing of the bird from the Bird Builder Punch.

DSC_0574

Take the wing and pinch the bottom of of it around the top of the Pear Pizzazz strip of card stock. I say the stem should be 1/8″ wide max, but it really depends on how you want it to look at the end. I started with 1/8″ wide and then cut it back a little for the final look.

DSC_0575

Add a small drop of Multipurpose Liquid Glue to glue the two peaces together. Set aside to dry.

Next, take the So Saffron card stock strip and wrap it around the Paper-Piecing Tool tightly, and at a bit of an angle.

DSC_0586

Glue the end down before taking the card stock off the tool. This will keep it from unraveling on you. Once the glue is dry, take it off… this is what you should have:

DSC_0587

Glue that into the center of the Calla Lily. You are finished. That’s it. It’s that easy.

DSC_0590

I used two of these to top a little woven Easter Basket I made. Fill the basket with  a few mini chocolate eggs to give to the neighbours for an Easter gift.

DSC_0591

If you want to give the Calla Lily some more depth, take some ink (usually the same colour as your paper) and an Aqua Painter to add colour to the center of the wing. Here’s how:

I used Pink Pirouette for the card stock and the ink with this one. First, squeeze your ink pad so some of the ink comes out on the lid. Then pick up the ink with the Aqua Painter as shown.

DSC_0581

Paint the center of the wing before gluing it to the stem.

DSC_0582

Now that your flower has more shading to it, you can glue the wing to the stem and continue with the rest of the steps.

I hope you find this as easy as I did. If you have any questions please write them in a comment so I can answer them for all who might have the same question. Thanks for reading!

Scrapbook Page, My Garden

Last year for mother’s day, my husband and son got the help of my dad and built me a new garden bed for our small backyard. I loved it so much. I still love it. So I thought these pictures needed a very special scrapbook page.

DSC_0563

The paper colours are Pink Pirouette, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White and Crumb Cake. The ink colours are Pink Pirouette, Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz, Wild Wasabi and Soft Suede. The stamp sets uses are Stippled Blossoms, Hardwood and My Mother. I used the Ovals Collection framelits with the Big Shot to cut out the ovals the “Happy Mother’s Day” is stamped on. Everything else is cut out either by hand or with the Stampin’ Trimmer. Glue, Snail, and Dimentionals were used to put it all together.

I’m having so much fun with the new “Hardwood” background stamp. That’s what I used to make the fence. It is so easy to get beautiful cards and pages without much time or effort. And the best part, it looks like it took you forever!

The card that inspired this page…

Hope you find this inspiring.

Scrapbook page, The Beach

So I thought I would show how easy it is to translate a card into a scrapbook page. This is just my fist one. I have another in the works and it should be up soon.

DSC_0555

Here’s the first page. Like it? Look familiar? Below is a card I did a while ago, and it made me think of this trip our family took to the beach. So I thought I would make a scrapbook page in a similar way.

DSC_0470

The scrapbook page would look better if I had the “By the Tide” stamp set as well. The I could have put some coral reef behind the pictures. For that matter, the card might look better with that stamp too. Oh well. I could have also added some splatters of ink to the sand… Why do I always think of better ways to do things after I’ve done them?

Hope you like this little idea. It helps me when I’m stuck for what to do.
